The biggest BC rebates open right now

Quick answerThe largest open rebate for most Metro Vancouver gas-heated homes is FortisBC’s dual fuel heating system rebate, re-introduced October 15, 2026: up to $4,000, or up to $8,000 for income-qualified households, when a gas furnace at least 15 years old is replaced with a qualifying heat pump plus gas furnace. Income-qualified households can also claim $2,500 for a water heater, up to $7,500 for windows and doors, and more.

Why CANRO built a rebate website

Rebate rules in British Columbia change several times a year. Programs close, amounts drop, new ones appear, and one missed step (the wrong contractor, a missing photo, a furnace that’s a year too young) can cost a homeowner thousands of dollars. We see it on job sites every month.

So CANRO Heating & Cooling, a Burnaby heating contractor since 1999, built CANRO Rebates: one plain-English place that tracks the programs that matter for BC homes, with the requirements, deadlines and paperwork spelled out. There’s nothing to sign up for and nothing to download. Use the finder, read the guide for your situation, then call (604) 359-1081 or email info@canroheat.ca and a licensed advisor will check it against your home.

How claiming a BC rebate works

Four steps. The order matters more than anything else. Most rebates are lost at step 2.

    1. Check before you buyConfirm the program is open, your home qualifies (age of equipment, fuel, income if relevant) and whether you need a pre-approval or eligibility code.
    2. Choose a qualifying installerMost programs require a Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) member listed for that rebate, and TSBC-licensed for gas work. Verify it on the HPCN directory.
    3. Install and commissionThe system must match the program’s equipment list. For dual fuel, the contractor submits commissioning data and old/new photos in the DSMAlly app on site.
    4. You apply and get paidYou submit your own application with the paid invoice, usually within six months. Processing takes up to 90 days.

Rebate questions we answer every week

What rebates can I get in BC right now?
As of October 15, 2026 the main programs for gas-heated homes are the FortisBC dual fuel heating system rebate (up to $4,000, or up to $8,000 if income-qualified), FortisBC income-qualified rebates for water heaters, thermostats, ventilation, insulation and windows, the income-qualified CleanBC Energy Savings Program, and Northern BC heat pump rebates. The full list shows amounts and status.
    Who is CANRO Rebates?
CANRO Rebates is a sub-brand of CANRO Heating & Cooling (canroheat.ca), a TSBC-licensed HVAC contractor based in Burnaby since 1999. We created this site to make BC rebates easier to understand and claim. You can reach us by phone at (604) 359-1081 or by email at info@canroheat.ca, and those are the only ways to contact us.
    Is this a government website?
No. CANRO Rebates is an independent guide run by a licensed contractor. Rebates are paid by FortisBC and the Province of BC, and you apply to them directly. We link to every official source so you can check the details yourself.
Do I apply for the rebate, or does the contractor?
You do. The homeowner applies for their own rebate, usually within six months of the paid invoice. For the FortisBC dual fuel rebate, the contractor also submits commissioning details and photos of the old and new systems through the DSMAlly app on installation day, so the contractor’s part has to be done right first time.
Is the Canada Greener Homes Grant still available?
No. The Greener Homes Grant and Loan are closed. A new National Heat Pump Rebate was announced on October 8, 2026, but it is not open yet.
Does it cost anything to talk to you about rebates?
No. A rebate check by phone or email is free. If you want a replacement quote, CANRO provides free in-home estimates for boiler, furnace, heat pump and water heater replacements.
Can I stack FortisBC and CleanBC rebates?
Usually only one primary space-heating rebate is allowed per home, so the programs generally can’t all pay for the same heat pump. Bonuses (such as FortisBC’s two-upgrade bonus) and rebates for other upgrades like insulation, windows or a water heater can often be added. The income-qualified dual fuel rebate can’t be combined with other FortisBC, provincial or federal rebates for the same system.
Will a broken furnace replacement still qualify?
Sometimes, but be careful. FortisBC excludes warranty and insurance replacements, and the old furnace has to be photographed for commissioning before it leaves. Call us before you sign anything, even in a no-heat emergency, so you don’t lose a rebate by accident.
