Boilers are CANRO’s specialty, so we hear this one a lot: “Is there a rebate for my new boiler?” For most gas customers the honest answer is no. Here is what is available, and when it’s worth looking at a different system.
Gas furnace replacement: your rebate options
| What you install | Rebate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New gas furnace only (like-for-like) | Generally none | No standard FortisBC rebate for existing customers in 2026 (confirm before relying) |
| Dual fuel system (heat pump + new gas furnace) | Up to $4,000 | Existing gas furnace must be 15+ years old; installed on or after Oct 15, 2026 |
| Dual fuel system, income-qualified | Up to $8,000 | Plus a $350 two-upgrade bonus |
| Connected thermostat, income-qualified | Up to $200 | Re-introduced Oct 15, 2026 |
Replacing an old gas furnace? Look at dual fuel
If your furnace is 15 years or older, the FortisBC dual fuel rebate pays up to $4,000 (or $8,000 income-qualified) toward a heat pump plus a new high-efficiency gas furnace. You get a new furnace either way. Dual fuel adds air conditioning and lower bills, and the rebate offsets much of the heat pump’s cost. Because the heat pump is PST-exempt while gas equipment carries 12% PST, the after-tax gap is often smaller than homeowners expect.
Boilers and hydronic heating
Hydronic homes (radiators, in-floor heat) don’t fit the ducted dual fuel rebate. For these homes we usually compare a high-efficiency condensing or combi boiler (no rebate for gas-to-gas, but big efficiency gains) against heat pump options that may qualify for income-qualified CleanBC support. It’s a judgement call for each house, and one George has made thousands of times.
- A condensing boiler (95%+ AFUE) can cut gas use substantially compared with an older 80% unit, even without a rebate.
- A combi boiler also replaces your water heater, freeing up space and removing a second appliance.
- Income-qualified households should check the CleanBC Energy Savings Program before choosing.
Small rebates worth knowing
FortisBC has offered appliance maintenance rebates ($50 for a furnace or boiler service, up to $150 per household). This is reported by third parties and not confirmed for 2026, so check before relying on it.
Emergency replacements
A failed furnace in January doesn’t leave much time to read program rules. FortisBC excludes warranty and insurance replacements from the dual fuel rebate, and the furnace you remove must be photographed for commissioning. If your heat is out, call (604) 359-1081 before you sign anything. We can often get heat back on safely while you decide whether a rebate-eligible upgrade makes sense.
How CANRO helps with the furnace and boiler rebates
CANRO has worked on gas heating in Metro Vancouver homes since 1999, and our founder George is known for boilers and hydronic heating, the systems other companies often won’t touch. When you call, we start with the questions that decide eligibility: how old is the existing equipment, what fuel heats the home, is it your primary residence, and does any part of the household qualify for income-tested rebates.
Then we tell you plainly which rebate fits, what it should pay, and what has to happen before the install. If a program needs an HPCN-listed contractor, we tell you how to verify any installer (including us) on the HPCN directory before you book. Call (604) 359-1081 or email info@canroheat.ca.
